About this deal

The rum itself is made using sugar cane grown on the island of Negros in the Philippines and matured in oak barrels for 7 years, after which it is blended and bottled. Traditional Filipino rum makers do not refill these casks, producing this dark, intense and concentrated rum. We opened the rum for a joint tasting in the family circle, since then we drink it more often in the evening or in the late afternoon, but I can also highly recommend it on occasions.

Dive into the world of Don Papa Rum and experience the difference that quality and affordability can make. Don Papa is light and fruity on the nose, smooth and delicate on the palate, the light amber-coloured Don Papa has a long, rich-textured finish and offers flavours of vanilla, honey and candied fruits.

Inspired by Papa Isio, a foreman at a sugar plantation, mystic bandit, and unsung hero from the philippine revolution. After harvest, fermentation and distillation, Don Papa Rum is blended to perfection by our Master Blender before coming together in an alchemy of magic in our bottle. The climate of these places is particularly hot and the soils of volcanic origin are really rich and fertile; these characteristics give the possibility to cultivate a sugar cane that gives a thick and very sweet molasses. This tropical gem captures the essence of the island's sugarcane, flourishing in mineral-rich volcanic soils that infuse it with a distinct character. When you come in, you can find your new favourite bottle at our tasting counter, hire glasses, flutes and chiller bins free* and pick up some ice. Finish : Nice length and rich persistence where the notes of vanilla dried apricot and candied citrus fruits are fully expressed.

Bumped into this accidently, very refreshing ( by that I mean ‘different’ ) take on rum - yes it is sweet, but added to a small range of rum options at home makes for a regular opportunity to indulge in a swerve away from standard. The rum's potent character draws from the Philippines' warm, humid climate, which yields one of the highest 'angel's share' percentages in the world during ageing. The combination of the rich volcanic soil on the island, the quality of the sugar cane, the ageing in oak and the blender’s skill gives Don Papa a rich smooth taste. The flagship super premium rum from Don Papa, aged for an additional 3 years in re-charred ex-bourbon American oak barrels. Bust after a couple of glasses you realise that (a) the rum base is not the best quality and (b) pineapple syrup is added later in the distillation/fermentation process so it just dominates everything else.
