About this deal

Rust Waterproof Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint by Simply Spray® is a non-toxic, non-flammable aerosol paint for use on all absorbent and non-absorbent materials.

It still has a nice, soft fabric feel to it and I would feel comfortable using this pillow for a quick nap. When applying a waterproofing product to any surface, it is important to do a test first to see how the fabric and the product reacts. For best results, let dry for one to two hours before spraying another coat to achieve the desired color. I mean if this wasn’t good I was going to have to replace two cushions and as I just said my piggy bank was broken.

I have had some luck with brush on fabric paints but for my outdoor cushions I wanted something that would give me a quick update. The conditions and temperature of the warehouses where it is kept can have a huge effect on how well it works. This project was inspired by another post somewhere out there on the internet of someone who revived their faded and discolored patio umbrella with regular spray paint and they loved how it turned out. After the final coat of paint, turn the can of spray paint upside down and spray it for a few seconds until it runs clear.

If you want to see the video process of me spray painting the chair, head on over to my Instagram and check out my "Fabric Paint" Highlight! Learn about Rustoleum outdoor fabric paint in a spray paint can and see how painting a small outdoor lumbar cushion turned out! This is highly concentrated so is great for both restoring or changing the colour of fabric to black. The can suggests cleaning with soap and water for dirty cushions, so if you have some older cushions a good soap and water wash down should be good enough for prep.

If you have some fabric cushions, for example, that you need to dry out ready for treatment, the best thing to do is get them inside to avoid any further water absorption. Exterior fabric can vary widely, with some designed to allow water to travel straight through the material to avoid it becoming saturated with water, while others have very little resistance to moisture. If the water absorbs into the fabric and darkens the surface, this is an indicator that it is able to get wet if it was left in rainfall and therefore needs waterproofing if you want to keep them dry.
