Had someone had the discipline, this could have been a wonderful series for children (say, junior high school and above) and parents alike. Channel 4 sitcom observing as twenty-something brothers Adam and Jonny go round to their parents' house for Friday night dinner. And of course, supper just wouldn't be the same without an appearance from Jim, a creepy neighbour whose frequent visits elevate him to `stalker' status.

Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper told Ladbible last year that he originally planned on making a seventh season before Paul Ritter – who played Dad – passed away. Over more than a decade, he has interviewed a wide-ranging group of public figures, from comedian Steve Coogan to icons from the Star Trek universe, cast members from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reality stars from numerous Real Housewives cities and the Below Deck franchise.

Occasional guest appearances were made by Martin's mother, Cynthia Goodman ( Rosalind Knight), referred to by the boys as "Horrible Grandma" due to her cruel and condescending treatment of the Goodmans. In 2021, for his performance in the final series of the show, Ritter received a posthumous BAFTA nomination for Best Male Comedy Performance. When Mum finds out that Dad didn't throw away his old boxes of science magazines in their clear-out, she goes mad. Two siblings share their Friday-night dinners at their parents' home and, somehow, something always goes wrong.Although some episodes are centred around Jackie’s eccentricities, she is usually the straight character who tries to run a normal household, but is disrupted by the rest of the family. Adam gains a new female admirer - a 9-year-old girl, Jonny gets the world’s worst tattoo, Mum practices being a counsellor on her horrified family, Dad tries to hide a dead fox from Mum, Grandma goes back out with the terrifying Mr Morris, neighbour Jim accidentally swallows his dog’s sleeping pills, and someone’s getting married.
