And I wish the author had been a bit more careful in her sections on narcissism as, in my work with people who have been abused, they can get so focused on whether or not the person they are with is really a narcissist that they lose sight of whether or not the behavior patterns are acceptable or not and if they will change. The exercises are often self-reflecting and designed to cause the reader to look into themselves, identify situations, and give themselves strength to overcome them. Narcissistic behavior is not something most of us understand or expect to encounter, and it is not abusive all the time, which allows us to believe that the ugly behavior is not the “real” person.
