About this deal

Ben Herbert is missing his Granny. It’s been a year since she passed away leaving Ben with only memories of their time together and of one special night in particular. It was the night he and his Granny, or Gangsta Granny as he dubbed her, went on an exhilarating adventure, tried to steal the crown jewels from the Tower of London and ended up meeting the Queen instead! The chance to buy the illustrations will no doubt excite fans as such images are rarely available, not least because the artist donated a vast archive of his work to Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! is a hilarious and wonderfully entertaining adventure, featuring many of the much-loved characters from the original cast...and is now a MAJOR new BBC ONE movie, broadcasting this December! The illustrations in ‘Gangsta Granny’ by Tony Ross are lovely, however they don’t quite compare with those from the wonderful pen of Quentin Blake in ‘Mr Stink’.

Patricia Hidalgo, Director BBC Children’s and Education, says: “I can’t imagine a more perfect film for families to sit down and watch together. This adventurous tale will appeal to all generations young and old.”Gangsta Granny suffers from the same problems: It uses the lowest common denominators to gain as wide an audience as possible that it overshoots at those who actually prefer to think for themselves and ask questions. Case in point: Ben's parents are such unlikely caricatures of adults in their obsession with (and reduction to) ballroom dancing, it is painful. And though his grandmother's secret past as a thief might be a funny idea in itself (just not very original), her other persona of 'granny' is such a stereotype it should not have made it past the first editor. Gangsta Granny is a children’s book, written by author David Walliams and published by Harper Collins. It begins with a young boy, Ben, who's not too about having to stay at his boring grandma’s house. She has white hair, loves playing Scrabble and eating cabbage soup. Just your typical granny, right?

Gangsta Granny us' not 'one of them'. He was so full of life and laughter, Raj seemed a world away from parents and teachers and all the grown-ups who felt they could tell you off because they were bigger than you. \"Just because your granny 1s old, young Ben,\" said Raj, \"doesn't mean that she is boring. I am getting on a bit myself. And whenever I have met your granny I have found her to be a very interesting lady.\" \"But-\" \"Don't be too hard on her, Ben,\" pleaded Raj. \"We will all be old one day. Even you. And I'm sure your granny will have a secret or two. Old people always do...\" • A further 300 of Ross’s illustrations will feature in a major selling exhibition planned for this autumn.Walliams is currently immersed in writing his next book and Mr Beetles has yet to ask him why he is selling the collection, but he was told by an associate that there is “a change of direction, change of taste”. Are you reading Gangsta Granny with your class? Or, maybe you're reading through this novel at home with your children. Gangsta Granny \"They go out of date tomorrow,\" said Raj, as he lumbered over to the freezer cabinet, slid open the glass top and pulled out a cardboard box of Cornettos. A freezing cold mist immediatelyWith the hinderance and help of an iceberg costume, a toff lobster and a Raj shop special, the action, calamity and chaos surrounds Ben again on another perilous adventure through the dark streets of London. He is the Little Britain comedian who became one of the UK’s top children’s authors, selling more than 50 million books worldwide. Now David Walliams is offering fans the chance to buy the original illustrations that brought to life his beloved, eccentric characters, including Mr Stink by Sir Quentin Blake and Gangsta Granny and Woolly Mammoth by Tony Ross. Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! is a hilarious and wonderfully entertaining adventure, featuring many of the much-loved characters from the original cast... Walliams pulls a mind-scrambler at the beginning of act three of this book. He has the titular granny die of cancer.

This was a read which both my children enjoyed. There were a few gross references, to breaking wind mostly, which are always a winner with children. It's a good book to read aloud, but be prepared to do some voices, because it works much better if you're willing to put some effort into it! Even for non-Strictly fans, the laughter works on every level. Maybe the portrayal of the Queen stalking the corridors of the Tower of London at midnight gave her the courage to join in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremonies accompanying James Bond to sky-dive into the stadium… Yes, ma’am, you were perfectly (and respectfully) portrayed. Gangsta Granny Descriptive Word Mat - Extend children’s descriptive vocabulary using this word mat, featuring interesting adjectives about the various settings and characters. Mr Beetles said of Ross’s illustrations: “These have been bought directly from Ross [by] David Walliams as he’s done each book.”
